Jeebs & Zuzu Makes Home Transformations Easy

We can help design and create those outdoor kitchens and fireplaces,” says co-owner Ubaldo Muñoz.

Muñoz recalls a recent backyard Jeebs & Zuzu transformed in the vision of their client. “The clients came in with ideas for the space, and we came up with a design they loved and got it executed. For over 8 years, Jeebs & Zuzu has been demystifying the renovation and construction process for clients in Albuquerque. Co-owner Dave Hickman saw a lot of confusion about the process as a licensed architect. So, he began Jeebs & Zuzu in 2011 to help clients achieve their dreams in a straightforward, helpful way. Eight years later, Jeebs & Zuzu has grown to include an experienced staff of owners, office, and field team members.

Renovating, designing, and building can all be a bit daunting for the layperson. That’s why Jeebs & Zuzu uses their unique menu system to help customers figure out what they want and at what price. “The menu works where it gives you a budget on what the low-end kitchen would cost you at a minimum, or if you want high-end materials and fixtures, we give you a price for that,” Muñoz explains.

There are six options to choose from, and all give clients a clear picture of what their ideal kitchen or bathroom might cost. With the menu option, Jeebs & Zuzu takes out the element of surprise that can often be found in remodeling. “The menu gives you a good idea of cost,” says Munoz. “It’s very enlightening for our customers and they trust us doing the work in their homes.”

One of the benefits of working with Jeebs & Zuzu is easy access to all team members. With the design and construction crew housed under one roof, it’s easy to make changes and adjust aspects of a project. “Our construction guys can call us up and say we found something behind this wall, and we can figure it out then, not wait a couple of days for a response from the designer,” Muñoz says. "Eliminating the time-consuming back and forth makes for a speedier and satisfactory completion.", he adds.

To keep everyone on the same page for their projects, the staff at Jeebs & Zuzu has regular Monday morning meetings. There, they discuss progress and other details of their projects. “We keep everybody happy and moving forward with a good attitude,” says Munoz.

This allows you to make it look new but keep your existing cabinets. You have a lot more flexibility with the menu of options.”

Another strength of Jeebs & Zuzu is their work with low-income households, where they design, renovate and complete a number of new projects. With many of these designs comes ADA (American Disability Act) accessibility, which the team at Jeebs & Zuzu has vast experience in. “We do designs and inspections to make sure requirements are met. We are credentialed and make our designs accessible” says Muñoz.

Indeed, Muñoz and his associates are keenly aware that clients may need more room to maneuver. He describes a recent job: “We had a client, she’s a nurse, who was thinking about the future, and we designed a brand-new home for her. When her parents get older, she’s going to take care of them, so she wanted her home to have the capability to do that. We integrated all those design elements into the home so it would be easy for her to retrofit if that came to be. It’s designing for the future — if her parents are in wheelchairs and need grab bars, she can add that because of the design, but they aren’t there yet, so it doesn’t have that hospital look.”
